Spyro The Dragon Game Info
In Spyro the Dragon, players take control of the young purple dragon as he sets out across the Dragon Worlds to rescue his fellow dragons, reclaim their stolen treasure and put a stop to Gnasty Gnorc’s plans.
Spyro has two main attacks at his disposal: flame and charge. His fiery breath is effective against many enemies, while charging with his horns allows him to smash into smaller enemies and break certain objects. Neither attack works against everything, however. Some larger enemies cannot be charged, while enemies protected by metal armour are immune to Spyro’s normal flames.
Exploration is an important part of the game. Spyro can jump and then glide across gaps, allowing him to reach platforms and areas that would otherwise be inaccessible. Certain special sections also give Spyro the ability to fly freely, adding another way to explore the game’s worlds.
Spyro’s health is shown through Sparx, his dragonfly companion. Sparx changes colour as Spyro takes damage, making it easy to see how much health remains. If Sparx disappears completely, Spyro can no longer take another hit without losing a life. Health can be restored by finding small creatures around the levels and flaming them to turn them into butterflies, which Sparx then eats.
Gems are scattered throughout the game’s worlds and can be found in the environment, inside treasure chests and by defeating enemies. Some chests require Spyro to use a particular ability or technique before they can be opened. Returning to previously completed areas can also reveal additional treasure and collectibles that were missed the first time through.
The game is structured around several Homeworlds, each containing a collection of individual realms. Portals in the Homeworlds lead to these different areas, where Spyro can rescue dragons, collect gems and recover dragon eggs. To progress through the game, Spyro must meet the requirements needed to travel to the next Homeworld.
Throughout the levels, Spyro will encounter dragons trapped in stone. Touching one of these statues frees the dragon and allows Spyro to continue his quest. Rescued dragons also provide useful advice, while their platforms act as save points.
Dragon eggs are stolen by fast-moving thieves, who Spyro must chase down and catch. These thieves can be difficult to corner, often requiring Spyro to use the level’s layout and Supercharge ramps to cut them off.
The ultimate goal is to reach Gnasty’s World, enter Gnasty Gnorc’s lair and defeat him. Completing the final battle triggers the ending sequence, but the adventure doesn’t have to end there. Spyro can return to the various Homeworlds and realms to collect any remaining gems, rescue dragons and recover dragon eggs.
Once the required collectibles have been gathered and the game reaches 100% completion, the entrance to Gnasty’s Loot becomes available. This secret bonus area provides even more treasure to collect and allows the original game to reach its maximum 120% completion.
