I love playing Tomb Raider on my PlayStation, but in order to create walkthroughs with screenshots and video clips, it’s necessary for me to play the PC version.
However, Tomb Raider (original) won’t play properly on the PC if you have anything later than Windows ’98.
The following software patches can help greatly:
Tomb Raider 1 Advanced Installer – Software that simplifies the installation of Tomb Raider on computers running Windows XP or Windows 2000. Supports Glidos, DGVoodoo and VDM Sound.
Glidos – Utility for high-quality graphics in Tomb Raider and other DOS games. Includes optional texture and audio packs. Supports 32-bit Vista. The full version requires a $10 payment (at the time of writing) but I found it’s more than worth it.
VDos32 – A virtual environment for running 32-bit DOS programs, specifically intended for Vista. Supports 32-bit Vista and requires Glidos, above.
Tomb Raider XTra – Really nice high-res textures for Tomb Raider. Works with Glidos, above.
DGVoodoo – Another piece of software for improving graphic quality in DOS games.
VDM Sound – Software that restores music and sound effects when running Tomb Raider under Windows XP.
Tomb Raider Audio Pack – Restores the missing audio tracks on the Sold Out Software version of Tomb Raider, plus the audio tracks that were originally included in the PlayStation game but not the PC version. Works with Glidos, above.
CD Audio Repair – Fixes problem of missing audio tracks on the Sold Out Software version of Tomb Raider.
As an alternative, you can download Tomb Raider 1,2 and 3 here for less than $10:https://www.gog.com/game/tomb_raider_123I have these, and TR1 plays perfectly on my Windows 7 PC with excellent graphics! :smiley-signs024:
